My name is Maxim, happily married to my beautiful wife. We have two boys together, age 1 and 3.*
Starting point
It all started as my oldest started to speak. He would say these cute, lovely or funny things (i.e. he loves "the Snurfs" and can't be convinced they're called the Smurfs — so we ended up calling it the Snurfs also 😄). However, we soon realized how so many of these "Tiny Moments" completely disappeared as we didn't write these down.
And we tried! We bought a nice family album (…but the book remained empty 📖), we WhatsApped each other when we observed these lovely moments (…never to be enjoyed again 📱💨).
Looking for a solution
We felt we needed a solution, so we browsed the App stores. What we found didn't make us happy.
- Apps that were crazy complicated or requested too many clicks
- Apps that were ridiculously expensive
- "Free apps" that required you to basically sell your personal data of your most precious moments to the highest bidder
- 0 apps where the data is stored in Europe
None of that!
With my background in IT, I started to dream what our ideal app would look like:
- A safe space, very intuitive — mindset: every click is one too many
- Even more important than the ability to create moments is the ability to easily find them back and enjoy them ❤️
- We wanted to stop sharing through 5 different WhatsApp groups — instead, sharing should be easy and burden-free
- We didn't want our information to be "locked in." Exporting our moments should be easy and free
- The data resides in Europe (Belgium)
I built a version 1 with these principles in mind, intended for an audience of two (my wife and me). When this basic version was ready, my friends and family all wanted to use it as well.
So… I fully rebuilt the app from scratch, this time in a solid, scalable format.
And there you have it. That's how TinyMoments came to be ✨. I hope you like it!
Built by a parent, for a parent. I truly value your feedback or suggestions for new improvements. Feel free to reach out to me via hello@tinymoments.io.
Lots of love,
Maxim 💛
